Group Classes

Broadway Kids Studio offers group classes and private lessons in singing, acting, dancing and instruments (piano, drums, and guitar). The following is a master listing of our classes sorted by age to help you choose a class that best fits your child’s interest. Click on an age group to display all available options. Our group classes take place once a week and all tuition is monthly.

Class Descriptions (By Category)

Tiny Tot Tap/Ballet (Ages 2-5)

A beginner combination class of Tap & Ballet learning basic movements in these styles. Eligible for participation in annual showcase.

Tiny Tot Musical Theater (Ages 2-5)

A beginner class learning musical theaters number(s) from a junior version of a musical which changes each year. This class is part of combined class with Tiny Tot Instruments but can be taken separately for only a half hour. Students are eligible for participation in Musical Theater Show where they will perform a few musicals numbers as part of the larger show production. They will be ensemble members of the production which takes place annually sometime in April. No additional production fees are required as all preparations and rehearsals take place in class. The only additional fee are tickets to attend the performance.

Tiny Tot Instruments (Ages 2-5)

A beginner class learning rhythms and beats, introduction in the various instrument families (string, percussion, etc.) and how to start reading music. This class is part of combined class with Tiny Tot Musical Theater but can be taken separately for only a half hour.

Ballet (Ages 5-18)

A form of classical dance demanding highly developed technique, grace and precision, executed according to specific gestures and flowing patterns. Pointe is a form of ballet presented on the tips of the toes, made possible by specialized shoes. There are different varieties of ballet en pointe, but for the most part they focus on grace and specific technique. Dancers must have sufficient strength and technique before beginning pointe or pre-pointe work. (Pre-requisite: Approval from Dance Director). Most ballet classes are eligible for participation in annual showcase.

Jazz (Ages 5-18)

A variety of theatrical dance, usually but not necessarily danced to jazz music, originating in the United States under choreographers such as Bob Fosse. Most jazz classes are eligible for participation in annual showcase.

Tap (Ages 5-18)

A dance form in which the performer taps out rhythms and patterns with his or her heels and toes while wearing special shoes with small metal plates called taps. Eligible for participation in annual showcase.

Hip Hop (Ages 5-18)

Styles primarily danced to hip-hop music or that have evolved as part of hip-hop culture. This includes a wide range of styles notably breaking, popping, locking, and krumping. Eligible for participation in annual showcase. A genre of concert dance that employs systems and methods found in modern dance and postmodern dance. Contemporary dance draws on modern dance techniques as well as newer philosophies of movement that depart from classical dance techniques by altogether omitting structured form and movement. Eligible for participation in annual showcase.

Core & Balance (Ages 5-18)

A strength, conditioning and technique class critical to the development of foundation skills used in all varieties of dance styles. This class will help you develop a stronger core for better balance on turns, strengthen your legs for more powerful leaps, and increase upper body strength for controlled execution of choreography. Plus this class incorporates cardiovascular activities to give you increased stamina and endurance for performances. It is recommended that anyone interested in any dance class also enroll in one or more of our core and balance classes.

Contemporary (Ages 9-18)

A genre of concert dance that employs systems and methods found in modern dance and postmodern dance. Contemporary dance draws on modern dance techniques as well as newer philosophies of movement that depart from classical dance techniques by altogether omitting structured form and movement. Eligible for participation in annual showcase. A strength, conditioning and technique class critical to the development of foundation skills used in all varieties of dance styles. TV Production (Ages 5-6)

This class is an introduction to the fundamentals of acting and producing works of art with a focus on a television audience. This include acting techniques for the small screen and behind the scenes production of filming and editing, lighting and directing decisions. This class produces short commercials and other projects throughout the year.

Acting 101 (Ages 5-11)

A introduction to acting class that works on a combination of various acting techniques and teaches the difference between stage, TV, and motion picture requirements. Students will learn the fundamentals around these techniques through small projects and fun acting and improvisational games throughout the year.

Musical Theater (Ages 5-11)

Musical theater classes work towards a selected junior version of a musical throughout the year. Everyone enrolled in the class gets a part. We purposely select musicals with a large ensemble focus. This class has an annual performance usually in April every year and the performances are broken into age group (5-6, 7-8, & 9-11) so each group gets a chance to shine on stage. No additional production fees are required as all preparations and rehearsals take place in class. The only additional fee are tickets to attend the performance.

TV & Film (Ages 7-18)

These classes work specifically on production of projects geared towards the television and motion picture industries. For students ages 7-11, this includes producing short commercials and other small projects throughout the year. For those age 12 +, this includes producing completely original short film(s) which is done as a year long project. The 12 + age group produces short films in a combination of classes including TV & Film, Creative Writing, and Cinema Composition. It is not necessary to be enrolled in all classes as everyone in any class contributes to overall project.

Audition Prep (Ages 9-18)

This class focuses on preparing students for the process of auditioning for all forms of the performing arts including stage, TV, film, and other auditions. They will learn a variety of 16 bars of music, how to properly slate, what standard resume requirements are, what a headshot is and why it is used, and more.

Creative Writing (Ages 12-18)

These classes work specifically on learning to put together complete scripts for the production of a play, musical, TV, or film project. This class also works with in combination with TV & Film and Creative Writing, to produce short films at the end of the year. It is not necessary to be enrolled in all classes as everyone in any class contributes to overall project.

Advanced Acting (Ages 12-18)

This class is focused on more challenging techniques and advanced skill compared to our Musical Theater classes which is geared to our younger students. Advanced acting classes work towards putting together a variety of short theatrical pieces which are performed at the end of year in our very own black box theater (Advanced Acting Spring Shorts). No additional production fees are required as all preparations and rehearsals take place in class. The only additional fee are tickets to attend the performance.

Music 101 (Ages 5-8)

In this class, students will learn about different composers such as Beethoven and Mozart, have the ability to explore the different instrument families via a basic instrument introduction, and learn music theory.

Choir (Ages 5-11)

This class will work as a chorus to learn holiday themed, spring, and contemporary choral music. Singers are split into three part harmonies and work together towards their annual concert. No additional production fees are required to take part in the concert as all preparations and rehearsals take place in class. The only additional fee are tickets to attend the performance.

Vocal Performance (Ages 5-18)

This class is focused on both performance and vocal techniques similar to the instruction received during private one on one instruction.  This class will also work on singing more contemporary and pop musical selections.

Rock Band (Ages 12-18)

This class will work together to create live music.  Students will have the opportunity to explore and learn how to play instruments such as drums, keyboards, guitar, and other available instruments along with singing and harmonizing as a band.

Cinema Composition (Ages 12-18)

This class will work in collaboration with the advanced acting and film classes to create a fully original score for the films being produced annually by the BKS Films team.  They will learn about different genres of film scores, composition, and how to create a film’s setting through music.
